Our Management Team

Don Wagnor – Director

As a young Victoria-native, Don went to the big city (Vancouver) where he graduated from BCIT in 1969 with a diploma in Building Technology. Don returned home inexperienced, but enthusiastic about what he could accomplish in the Victoria construction market. He found a spot at Farmer Construction where he rose through the ranks to become their Chief Estimator. Don worked with Farmer until the 1984 recession that changed the landscape of the construction industry in Victoria and elsewhere.

Don has a Professional Quantity Surveyors designation which gives him a breadth of knowledge in construction management best-practices, including all laws relating to construction and accounting and allows him to provide accurate cost and financial advice on all his construction projects.

Don has 2 sons, one of whom works full-time at Canpro and the other who helps Canpro with their proprietary software needs -one of the value propositions Canpro offers their clients.

John Burkard – Director

John is also a native to Victoria and comes from a family with a long tradition in the construction industry. His father was a residential builder in the Greater Victoria area and his brother also started a construction company on Vancouver Island. The construction industry has been immersive for John and his sons all their lives.

John graduated from Camosun College with a certificate in Carpentry and apprenticed with Farmer Construction from 1969-73 as a Journeyman Carpenter. With his skill, passion, and dedication he rose to become the construction superintendent for Farmer for 12 years.

When John isn’t working you’ll find him playing baseball, fishing, or hunting.

Mike Wagnor – Estimator / Project Manager

Mike was the 1990 BC High Schools Golf Champion and a member of the Canadian PGA. As a young man, he thought he would stay in the sport. But after a couple of years of working in the pro shop, he realized that the construction industry and Canpro was where his heart was.

Mike graduated from BCIT in 1999 with a diploma in Building Engineering Technology with a major in Economics. Mike’s hard work paid off, as he is now one of the principal members of the company.
Mike is also an associate member with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors making him a valued asset to the company and their clients.

Mike is happily married with two beautiful children and he still regularly thrashes his father Don on the golf course.

Steven Burkard – Estimator / Project Manager

Steven graduated high school from Spectrum and knew straight away what he wanted to do. He completed the carpenter apprentice program at Camosun College before joining Canpro in 1998 where he apprenticed as a Journeyman Carpenter. Steven became superintendent and then moved into the office as a Project Manager and Job coordinator where he has proved to be of critical value over the last 7 years.

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Steven values his community and is very involved in local sports, coaching baseball at all levels. Steven is also on the board of directors for the Triangle Athletic Association.

Steven loves that Canpro has been, and continues to be, such a great supporter of various youth sports throughout the community. He is looking forward to the future of the business and the construction industry on Vancouver Island.
